May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Taking a proactive approach to protect and preserve your mental health is mental hygiene. Practicing good mental hygiene is especially important as we continue to move through varying states of “fight or flight” and uncertainty. Developing a rhythm during this time is useful. Rhythm because the beat is constantly changing and the ability to be flexible is key. Even I had to strike a different rhythm during this time. My monthly blog has not been as timely as I continue to work while safer at home. However, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that you are seen. These are strange and trying times yet the good does not get erased by the bad. As we continue to hold space and process at the same time, it is a good practice for all of us to find moments to just be. Here are a few Minute Mantras for these moments. Take a minute out of your day to sit with yourself, eyes closed or a soft gaze and be present.
“I can hold space for multiple feelings.”
“My thoughts are not facts.”
“The future is still a work in progress. I am in the present.”
“Things do not always have to be fine.”
“I release expectations and embrace opportunities.”
“I am allowed to feel fear.”
“I can control my thoughts, how I react, how I respond and how I behave.”
